Our South West based Safe Systems team specialises in advising established businesses, business start-ups, SMEs and sole traders on all aspects of mandatory Health and Safety training and compliance.

We work mostly in the South West, including; Bristol, Bath, Bridgwater, Taunton and Yeovil and also coordinate an experienced network of Health and Safety associates to work with businesses across the UK.

Meet the key team:

Elaine Hutchinson

Safe Systems Consultancy founder, director and primary consultant is Elaine Hutchinson.  Elaine's hands-on, pragmatic approach combines technical NEBOSH qualifications and Tech IOSH membership with teaching and management experience, plus practical Navy and RAF reservist skills.

As well as offering numerous teaching and training packages, Elaine is also a trainer and assessor for Qualsafe and a First Aid trainer and assessor for Haven Ambulance Service.

Elaine worked in partnership to produce the Start Safe Safety packages and business services which are also part of Safe Systems Consultancy.

David Walker

As well as working with Elaine, David runs his own company, David Walker BEST in North Wales specializing in building and environmental services, education and training. He has extensive experience in both the construction and building services industries and worked for many years for the National Health Service, conducting many aspects of their Health and Safety management and training.

David also works in partnership with Elaine to produce the Start Safe Safety packages and business services.

Rev Dr Mark Hutchinson

As a Business Consultant and Mediation Specialist supported with a background in education, the mental health profession and the clergy, Mark Hutchinson applies his breadth of expertise in a wide range of business and health and safety contexts.

Stuart Scorgie

CCF Contingent Commander, Clifton College

Bristol-based Cdr Stuart Scorgie’s unique military and educational perspective of health and safety is gained through his extensive and illustrious career in the Navy, alongside 20 years as a teacher and CCF Contingent Commander. An outdoor and aquatic specialist he is currently a Royal Naval Reservist and holds numerous teaching and coaching qualifications.


In her business support role Jackie carries out a lot of the day to day administrative support for both Safe Systems and our clients, Jackie helps manage the accounts and data management as well as organising the practical side of the courses we run, dealing with course allocations, admin and event logistics.


Frank Wood is one of our First Aid Trainers and Assessors.  With an extensive paramedic background and considerable training experience you can be sure that as well as being able to draw on his experiences in the Ambulance Service and tell you many interesting stories and scenarios, Frank is a warm, friendly and a thoroughly competent and skilled trainer.


With 20 years in the Fire Service, you can be sure that Charles understands fire in a way that many don't.   Charles is one of our Fire Trainers and Fire Risk Assessors and brings a wealth of background experience to his role.

Charles is also our primary consultant for Asbestos Surveys and Reports as well as co-ordinating any asbestos removal you may need.


John is a health and safety consultant, management consultant and professional engineer with a transport safety background. 

John's main interest is in human performance management, this combined with his extensive experience in dealing with the human factors of safety and risk management mean he is a highly sought after trainer and accident investigator.

As well as consulting for Safe Systems Consultancy, John is the managing partner for Silver Moor Consulting.


Richard is our environmental energy consultant and deals with energy certification and resource management. 

Whether you need EPCs, DECs, or your organisation wants ESOS, carbon reporting and ISO support, Richard will support your team to ensure your energy management is cost effective, easily managed with great software and compliant for ESOS or ISO 50001.


James heads up our driver training team. 

Whether you want to do more than just check someone's driving licence or ensure your staff are 'Blue Light' trained, James is the person to ensure you receive the highest standard of both theoretical and practical training.
